German Parliament calls for long-range missiles with a range of up to 500 km to be provided to Ukraine

After the UK provided Ukraine with long-range Storm Shadow missiles, Germany called for the transfer of their German counterpart, the Taurus munitions. They are capable of striking targets at a distance of 500 kilometers.

According to him, Ukraine needs to transfer all types of weapons that could be used by NATO. There should be no red lines in this regard, the politician noted.
"Ukraine's allies must now go all-in and provide Ukraine with everything that Ukraine can use for combat with the simultaneous, interconnected use of several types of weapons, and that is permissible from the point of view of international law," he said.
"Taurus cruise missiles with a range of 400-500 kilometers would be a very useful contribution from Germany in this regard," Kiesewetter added.
Germany has a small stockpile of Taurus, but they could significantly improve the quality of Ukraine's warfare, agrees Fabian Hoffman, a missile expert at the University of Oslo. According to him, the long-range Storm Shadow missiles gave Ukraine a great advantage over Russian air defense systems, which have difficulty shooting down low-flying targets.
However, the few such missiles that the UK has provided do not guarantee great success, he notes. Only in large numbers could these weapons systems change the course of the war.

In May, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced that the country had provided Ukraine with Storm Shadow missiles with a range of 250 kilometers. He later confirmed that Ukraine had used Storm Shadow on the battlefield.
