WSJ: The US is going to give Ukraine depleted uranium shells

The United States intends to provide Ukraine with depleted uranium tank shells.
Source. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Previously, such shells were handed over to Kyiv by Britain. It is noted that they are more effective in penetrating armor than conventional ones.
The White House is also discussing the possibility of supplying Ukraine with cluster munitions, and discussions are ongoing, the WSJ reports.
Depleted uranium is a byproduct of enriched uranium production. It is characterized by high density and strength, and due to these qualities, it is used both in the production of armor for military equipment and ammunition, mainly cores for armor-piercing shells.
Depleted uranium has no high radioactivity, although it is considered to be toxic and carcinogenic.
According to the European Union's website, depleted uranium munitions were used during the Gulf wars, as well as in Serbia and Kosovo. Their use has raised concerns about health hazards due to exposure to depleted uranium. The EU website notes that several studies have not found sufficient evidence of the substance's harmfulness.
Background. In April, it became known that the British Ministry of Defense had already sent "thousands" of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine.
