Ukraine's Foreign Ministry and Presidential Administration comment on NATO Chief of Staff's "proposals" to give up occupied territories

Talks about Ukraine joining NATO in exchange for giving up part of Ukrainian territories are absolutely unacceptable, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said, commenting on the statement by the NATO Secretary General's Chief of Staff.

Source. He wrote this on his Facebook page.

"It has always been said that the Alliance, like Ukraine, does not trade territories. The conscious or unconscious participation of NATO officials in shaping the narrative about the possibility of Ukraine giving up its territories plays into Russia's hands. Instead, it is in the interest of Euro-Atlantic security to discuss ways to accelerate Ukraine's victory and its full membership in NATO," Nikolenko wrote.

Earlier it was reported that during a public discussion in Norway, NATO Secretary General's Chief of Staff Stefan Jenssen suggested that Ukraine could become a NATO member if it gave up some of its territories, but stressed that the final decision should be made by Kyiv.

"I am not saying that this is the way it should be. But it could be a possible solution," Jenssen said, as quoted by the Norwegian newspaper VG. "Russia is experiencing enormous military difficulties, and it seems unrealistic that it will be able to seize new territories. Now it is more about what Ukraine will be able to regain."

The words of the NATO representative were also commented on by Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. According to him, the option of Ukraine giving up some of its territories is a triumph for Putin.

"It is obvious that if Putin does not suffer a crushing defeat, the political regime in Russia does not change, and war criminals are not punished, the war will definitely return with Russia's increased appetite," he said.
