Peace summit takes place in Malta: five out of ten points of Zelenskyy's "peace formula" are being discussed

Malta is hosting an international summit of foreign policy and national security advisors dedicated to the peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, delegations from 66 countries are taking part in the talks to discuss Kyiv's "peace formula."

It is important for Ukraine to involve as many states as possible in the summit, as it seeks to enlist the support of not only its traditional allies in the West, but also in the so-called Global South.

There are no representatives of Russia at the summit, as Moscow does not recognize the Ukrainian "peace formula" – the Kremlin called the summit "an openly anti-Russian event."

This time, China is not among the participants, although a Chinese delegation was present at the previous peace summit on Ukraine, which took place in the Saudi capital of Jeddah.

Compared to the Jeddah summit, which was attended by representatives of about 40 countries, the number of participants has increased. Agency sources say that representatives of Turkey, as well as South Africa, Brazil and India (the latter three countries are members of the BRICS bloc, which also includes Russia) arrived in Malta.

South Africa and India have not condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and Brazil has not joined the anti-Russian sanctions.

The EU, the US, and the UK are also among the forum participants.

According to AFP, the organizers of the summit hope to conclude it by signing a joint declaration.

According to Reuters, the organizers of the summit in Malta hope to get the participants to agree to hold a large-scale international summit where world leaders will approve the general principles of the war settlement. Such a meeting may take place later this year.

In a video address to the summit participants on Saturday, Zelenskiy said that the points of the "peace formula" cover all aspects of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and are based on the principles of the UN Charter.

"Over the year that is coming to an end, our Formula for Peace is gradually becoming global, because you all supported it," Zelenskyy said.

He clarified that the Malta summit was discussing five of the ten points of the "peace formula": nuclear security, food and energy security, the release of all prisoners and deportees, and the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
