Canadian manufacturer of anti-drone systems suspects Russian university of attempted technology theft

Canadian company Skycope Technologies Inc. has suspected the Russian Technological University MIREA of illegally purchasing its SkyEye anti-drone radar to copy the equipment.

Source. This is stated in the company's statement received by the Agency.

RTU Mirea is engaged in the development of anti-drone systems.

Skycope has nothing to do with the sale of the radar to the Russian university, as it fully complies with sanctions that prohibit such supplies, the company said in response to a question about how RTU Mirea was able to purchase the anti-drone system.

The company sees three possible explanations for what happened: either the news about the purchase is fake, or the system sold to the university is counterfeit equipment, or it was obtained illegally.

Skycope also stated that it cannot control the circulation of its products and prevent counterfeiting. The company said that it is carefully studying potential customers to prevent cooperation with sanctioned countries.

The Canadian firm also said that several months ago it implemented technical measures to prevent the illegal use of its products in countries under Canadian sanctions, including Russia. This was done after the company discovered a fake website called Skycope.ru. Unidentified persons posted images and information about its products on it. After a complaint from the company's lawyers, the site was blocked, the Canadian manufacturer said in a statement.

In June 2023, RTU MIREA purchased a Canadian drone detection system for 4.5 million rubles, which is capable of covering a third of Moscow's area within the Moscow Ring Road.

Background. As a reminder, the Ukrainian company Bavovna.ai, which develops navigation systems for UAVs, has become part of the US Department of Defense program.
