The EU will impose sanctions against the Russian PMC Redoubt, which prepared assassination attempts on Zelensky
The Redoubt PMC employs between 7 and 25 thousand mercenaries who are not formally in the military

The European Union plans to impose sanctions on the Redoubt private military company by the end of 2023. According to a source of the Nashe Vremya media outlet, the draft sanctions list states that Redoubt is responsible for actions that undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.
The document names the Redoubt fighters as participants in attempts to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Specific details of the assassination attempts are not specified.
Journalists of the Schemes and Systems projects found out that Russian military intelligence is using a fictitious private military company called Redut to recruit mercenaries to participate in the war in Ukraine.
The EU sanctions list identifies the Moscow-based company Redut-Bezpechnost as the organization responsible for the operation of the Redut PMC. This company is already on the US sanctions list.
The journalists note that Redut-Bezpechnost is associated with a certain group of mercenaries, but is not responsible for all the formations that call themselves PMC Redut and participate in the hostilities in Ukraine.
The PMC "Redoubt" includes at least 20 armed groups, and they are composed of 7 to 25 thousand mercenaries who are not formally in the military service.
At the same time, the "unofficial army of the GRU" took part in the invasion of Ukraine from the first days of its invasion, and its units are led by the deputy head of the GRU, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, who is already under EU and US sanctions, as well as former senator from the Tambov region Alexei Kondratiev and Colonel of the General Staff Sergei Drozdov, the newspaper reported.
In November, Zelenskyy told the British tabloid The Sun that Ukraine's security services had managed to prevent "five or six" attempts on his life. According to him, the first such case caused panic, but then everything was not so bad: "It's very interesting when it's the first time. And then it's like a covid. At first, people don't know what to do with it, and it causes a lot of fear. And then the intelligence just gives you the details that another group has arrived in Ukraine to try to do it."
