More than 60 monuments related to Russian propaganda have already been dismantled in the capital of Ukraine

On Saturday, December 9, a monument to Russian commander Nikolai Shchors was dismantled in Kyiv, the work lasted for six hours, said Mykhailo Budilov, director of the Kyiv Territorial Control Department.
Source. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).
A team of specialists from Kyivblagoustrii worked on dismantling the almost 7-ton structure for 6 hours.
"These are technically complex works, which involved various heavy equipment and required partial blocking of traffic in both directions of Taras Shevchenko Boulevard. The dismantling took place in the morning on a day off so as not to paralyze traffic on the city's central streets," the statement said.
The monument will be stored in the Antonov State Museum of Aviation of Ukraine, the Kyiv City State Administration reported.
According to Budilov, more than 60 monuments related to the history and culture of Russia and the USSR have already been dismantled in the capital of Ukraine. Currently, work is underway on the objects from which the government has removed the protective status.
The monument to Shchors, located in the center of Kyiv, was previously removed from the protected status.
The monument to Shchors, which is perceived as a symbol of Soviet propaganda, has been called for dismantling in Ukraine for about a decade, the BBC Ukrainian Service notes.
In March 2017, a horse's leg was damaged in the statue, and the inscriptions "Executioner", "Decommunization", and "Demolish me" appeared on the pedestal. Later, the sculpture was covered with a yellow and blue banner on all sides.
Shchors was a division commander of the Red Army and died in 1919 in the battles against the Galician Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic.
In 1872-1926, a monument to Ukrainian businessman and philanthropist Oleksii Bobrynskyi stood on the site of the current equestrian statue. The initiator of the monument to the commander was Joseph Stalin.
Interestingly, former President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk claimed in an interview that he posed for the monument at the age of 20. At the same time, he stated that he would not regret it if the monument was eventually demolished.
