Turkish President Erdogan said on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is no different from Adolf Hitler and compared Israel's attacks on Gaza to the Nazis' treatment of Jews.

Source. This was reported by Reuters.

Turkey, a NATO member that supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has criticized Israel's air and ground attacks on Gaza, calling it a "terrorist state" and saying its leaders should be brought before international courts.

In addition, Erdogan invited scholars and academics who are being persecuted for their views on the Gaza conflict to Turkey.

He said that Western countries that support Israel are complicit in what he called war crimes.

"They used to talk badly about Hitler. How are you different from Hitler? They are going to make us miss Hitler. Is what this Netanyahu is doing less than what Hitler did? No," Erdogan said.

"He is richer than Hitler, he receives support from the West. There is all kinds of support coming from the United States. And what did they do with all this support? They killed more than 20,000 Gazans," he said.

Netanyahu said that the Turkish president should be the last person to lecture Israel.

"Erdogan, who is committing genocide against the Kurds, who is the world record holder for imprisoning journalists who oppose his rule," Netanyahu said, "is the last person who can preach morality to us.

Despite its criticism of Israel, Turkey maintains commercial ties with the country, despite negative reactions from opposition parties and Iran. Ankara says that trade with Israel plummeted after the October 7 Hamas attack that killed 1,200 people, prompting Israel to go to war.

Unlike its Western allies and some Arab countries, Turkey does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization.

Background. As a reminder, in November, Turkey filed a lawsuit against Netanyahu, accusing him of genocide against the residents of the Gaza Strip.
