Switzerland bans import of Russian diamonds into the country
The sanctions will come into force tomorrow, February 1

The Swiss government has announced that it has joined the December EU sanctions package (which the country is not a member of), which includes, among other things, a ban on the import of Russian diamonds.
"Switzerland hereby joins the measures agreed at the G7 summit on December 6, 2023, to deprive Russia of this important revenue stream," the government communiqué says.
The sanctions will come into effect tomorrow, February 1.
Switzerland has also banned imports of cast iron, liquefied petroleum gas and exports of lithium batteries, motors for unmanned aerial vehicles, machine tools and parts to Russia.
Russian citizens and persons residing in Russia will be prohibited from controlling Swiss companies providing cryptocurrency-related services. Switzerland imposed sanctions against 147 individuals and companies related to the aggression against Ukraine. The list already includes 1422 individuals and 291 organizations.
After Switzerland joined the Western sanctions, Russia stopped considering it a neutral country and classified it as "unfriendly."
Switzerland itself continues to consider itself a neutral country, which was manifested, in particular, in its refusal to supply weapons to Ukraine.
