Telegram users will be able to receive 50% of the revenue from advertising on their channels

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has announced that in March, the Telegram Ad platform will be launched in 100 countries. Participants will be able to receive 50% of the revenue from the display of ads in their channels.

Currently, Telegram channels generate 1 trillion views per month, and only 10% of them are monetised through advertising, according to Durov.

However, it will be possible to withdraw money only through the TON blockchain.

"To guarantee fast, secure payments and withdrawals, we will use TON exclusively," Durov writes, "Like Fragment's usernames, we will sell ads and share the revenue with channel owners in Toncoin.

Durov does not hide the fact that he expects the Toncoin ecosystem to develop: it will create a favourable cycle when content creators can either withdraw their Toncoins or invest them in promoting and upgrading channels.

Sponsored messages were introduced in the messenger at the end of 2021, but have been very limited so far. It is displayed only in large publics (more than a thousand subscribers), has no user profile targeting, and is limited to 160 characters, according to Telegram itself.

"When it is fully launched and allows Telegram to cover its costs, we will start sharing the revenue with the owners of channels that display sponsored messages," the company promised.

Background. As reported, on 28 February, bitcoin reached $60 thousand for the first time since November 2021.
