Draft law on voluntary release of prisoners to serve in the Armed Forces submitted to Rada
This will not apply to those prisoners who violated discipline or committed crimes against statehood

A draft law on the release of convicts for military service on the basis of signing a contract has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The draft law provides for the right of convicted citizens of Ukraine to be released on parole, provided they agree to serve in the Armed Forces under a contract.
The draft law was introduced on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
According to Hromadske, the first version of the government's draft law on mobilisation, which was later withdrawn, provided for the possibility of voluntary mobilisation of those sentenced to a suspended sentence. However, the then commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, opposed the recruitment of prisoners and convicts, according to NV sources. He allegedly said: "Is the army for bad people?"
In February, the Ministry of Justice announced that it would propose "more radical" steps to mobilise convicts. Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska explained that there are "thousands of prisoners and convicts" in Ukraine who are ready to become military personnel.
At the same time, he said, those prisoners who violated military discipline, committed crimes related to the performance of their military duty, as well as crimes against statehood, will not be mobilised.
