Boeing has recommended that airlines check the cockpit seats of its 787 Dreamliner aircraft after an incident involving a Latam jetliner that abruptly lost altitude during a flight from Australia to New Zealand.

Source. This was reported by the BBC.

On Monday, the plane, which was flying LA800 from Sydney, Australia, to Auckland, New Zealand, "fell" 100 metres during the flight, injuring 50 people. 12 people, including three crew members, were hospitalised.

It was reported that the loss of altitude was caused by some technical problems. The investigation is still ongoing.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that one version of the incident could have been caused by a jammed switch in the back of the pilots' seat.

According to the WSJ, a flight attendant serving food to the pilots accidentally hit a switch that provides electric seat adjustment. As a result, the switch jammed, and the seat moved forward, pushing the pilot onto the steering wheel.

The publication cites sources familiar with the preliminary results of the investigation.

According to the WSJ, on Thursday, Boeing sent a memo to airlines operating Dreamliners and recommended checking the operation of the seats.

Boeing also said that it is considering making changes to the aircraft's operating manuals.

Background. Boeing has recently admitted that it was involved in the accident with the 737 Max 9, which had a door torn off during the flight. The company's CEO promised to conduct the investigation "with absolute transparency".
