Representatives of Russian volunteer formations fighting on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces call the attacks in the Belgorod and Kursk regions a "limited military operation" that prevented a large-scale Russian offensive on Ukrainian territory.
"Putin's army aimed to conduct significant attacks before Putin's inauguration. Accordingly, our operation disrupted these plans. They were forced to transfer numerous forces from the Kupyansk direction in order to hold their Kursk and Belgorod regions for now," said Alexei Baranovsky, a representative of the Legion of Freedom of Russia (LSR), at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday, 21 March.
According to him, in response to the morning missile attack on Kyiv on 21 March, Russian volunteer units struck a military facility with at least nine Russian servicemen.
The commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC), Denis Nikitin (call sign White Rex), in turn, called the fighting, which has been going on for 10 days in the Belgorod region, "the opening of a second front".
"We were able to move full-scale hostilities to the enemy's territory. If earlier we said that the state border of the Russian Federation has turned into a fortified zone, now it is an extension of the front line," he added.
Representatives of Russian volunteer units in the Ukrainian Armed Forces claim that the Russian army lost 651 soldiers in the last 10 days, including more than 900 wounded.
"The Russian liberation forces destroyed 121 pieces of enemy equipment, 50 pieces of equipment were disabled," Baranovsky added.
Background. Earlier it was reported that the "Freedom of Russia" legion is fighting in five settlements in the Belgorod region.
