Argentine President Javier Milei promised not to recognise the fraud in the presidential election in Venezuela and said that ‘Venezuelans have decided to get rid of the communist dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro’.

‘Venezuelans have decided to end the communist dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro. The election results announce a crushing victory for the opposition, and the world is waiting for the current government to admit defeat after years of socialism, poverty, decline and death.
Argentina is not going to accept another fraud and hopes that the Armed Forces (of Venezuela) will this time stand up for democracy and the will of the people. The progress of freedom in Latin America,’ the president said in a statement.
Edmundo González, a candidate from the United Platform, and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who was running in his place because the authorities banned her from running, announced that they had evidence of fraud and documents with the true results – namely, scorecards with the results of 73% of the polling stations. They show that 6.2 million people supported González and 2.7 million supported Maduro, according to the Financial Times and other global media.
Thousands of people protested in different cities of Venezuela on Monday. In Caracas, police used tear gas against them.
Machado called on the armed forces to intervene and ‘ensure respect for the popular sovereignty expressed in the vote,’ noting that it was ‘time for them to stand on the right side of history.’ So far, the army has been on Maduro's side.
Maduro, who has already begun celebrating his re-election, accused Machado of organising an international conspiracy, calling her actions a coup attempt.
He also mentioned Elon Musk, who supports the overthrow of the dictatorship in Venezuela.
‘Virtual reality is controlled by the sworn enemy, the famous Elon Musk, who wants to come with his rockets to invade Venezuela. We know that you are behind all this, with your money and satellites,’ he said.
Maduro's victory was recognised by his friends – the leaders of Cuba, Iran, and Vladimir Putin, who called him ‘always a welcome guest on Russian soil’.
Meanwhile, Chilean President Gabriel Borich said after the official results were announced that they were ‘hard to believe’.
Maduro's victory was also not recognised by Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica and Peru, which announced the expulsion of Venezuelan diplomats.
The US, EU, and UK are demanding detailed data on the vote. Similar statements were made by Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, whose left-wing presidents have maintained close ties with Maduro.
To put additional pressure on him, they are preparing a joint statement demanding that all votes be counted and that data for each polling station be made public, two Brazilian officials told Bloomberg.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is set to discuss the situation with US President Joe Biden on Tuesday.
In November 2023, Washington lifted sanctions against Venezuela's oil and gas sector imposed under Donald Trump. After opposition leader Machado was withdrawn from the election, Washington reimposed sanctions.
In recent months, Washington has again held secret talks with Caracas to lift sanctions in the event of fair and competitive elections.
As reported, the US suspected that the elections in Venezuela could be rigged. Blinken stressed that the international community is closely monitoring what is happening and will respond.
