A former security guard at the British Embassy in Berlin has been sentenced to 13 years and two months in prison after being found guilty of spying for Russia. The verdict against 58-year-old David Smith was handed down in London.

Details. Smith was found guilty of passing information about embassy staff to Russian officials and intelligence services, as well as collecting additional information about the activities of British diplomats.
According to the case file, which was cited by the media, since November 2020, Smith has been passing classified materials about the British Embassy to Russia's military attaché in Germany, as well as making copies of CCTV footage installed on the embassy building.
At first, Smith denied all charges, but later agreed to admit to spying, but not to receiving money for it.
