MEDIA: Hackers who set off false air raid alarm spoofed Gazprom satellite signal
This is also possible in the upcoming future

A false air raid alarm on Russian radio and TV stations on the morning of February 28 was caused by hackers intercepting a signal from the Yamal-402 satellite, which belongs to the Gazprom Space Systems holding (part of the Gazprom group).
Source. This was reported by Vedomosti with reference to two sources.
On February 28, in several Russian regions, including Moscow, Dovgoprudny, Voronezh, as well as in the temporarily occupied Crimea, air alerts were broadcast on radio stations and some TV channels. The Russian Emergencies Ministry stated that the information was untrue and appeared as a result of "server hacking."
Two sources close to one of the largest satellite TV operators said that the Yamal-402 satellite had failed to broadcast. One of them claims that hackers intercepted the signal from the satellite using a powerful antenna located in Ukraine.
The newspaper's second source says that it is possible to interrupt the satellite's signal in this way from any point in the spacecraft's coverage area. The source believes that such an interception can be repeated.
Experts explain that this is not an interception, but a signal replacement. A more powerful signal can "crush the signal transmitted by the telecenter," they note and warn that such actions are possible in the future.
"They change the signal, for this purpose they use the receiving equipment that each satellite has. Not the round antennas, but the receiving equipment in the form of base stations located in the country, and the signal that was replaced comes from there. This requires special equipment that will allow replacing the real signal with a false one," said Denis Kuskov, CEO of TelecomDaily.
Background. The day before, it was reported that a UAV had crashed near a Gazprom facility near Moscow.
