Russian gas exports at risk due to lack of spare parts from the US
With the new package of sanctions, the flow of spare parts has stopped

Russia's gas exports are facing serious problems due to the US sanctions imposed in February, which prohibit the supply of any gas turbines and components to Russia.
The critical dependence on Western technologies of Russian gas megaprojects, including Power of Siberia and Turkish Stream, and the inability to replace them quickly could lead to a reduction in gas exports to the last major consumers, China and Turkey.

The publication notes that until February 2023, American components were supplied to the Russian market despite the war of sanctions. However, with the new package of sanctions, this flow stopped.
At the same time, the success of the commissioning and operation of the largest export pipelines Power of Siberia and Turkish Stream, which use the technologies of the American company Baker Hughes, depends on American components.
The February sanctions package banned both direct and indirect supplies. This means that even a foreign partner will now be subject to secondary sanctions.
Amid the loss of access to Western technology, Russian companies are trying to find an alternative in China or Iran, but so far they have failed. Against this backdrop, companies are even forced to resort to the secondary market, looking at parts and turbines that have already been used.
The problem is compounded by the fact that some Russian power plants use Western turbines. Such power units are found at some plants, from RusHydro's South Sakhalin CHP-1 to Unipro's Surgut SDPP-2. These projects may also face problems due to new US sanctions.
Experts believe that the United States will tighten its control over the supply of its technologies through third countries and will start imposing secondary sanctions.
