US announces new $2.6 billion military aid package for Ukraine
The package includes ammunition for HIMARS systems

The United States announced on Tuesday a new $2.6 billion military aid package for Kyiv.
According to the Pentagon, this package will include, among other things, a large amount of ammunition for HIMARS systems, as well as conventional artillery shells.

The new package was made possible by President Biden's authorization to withdraw more ammunition for the HIMARS High Mobility Artillery and Rocket System, air defense interceptors, and artillery shells from Army depots worth $500 million.
The package will also include anti-tank systems, small arms and vehicles.
However, the bulk of the $2.1 billion is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). These funds are allocated for the purchase of air defense systems, various missile systems, and ammunition.
