The Ministry of Infrastructure has opened the bridge over the Desna River in Chernihiv Oblast.
The Ministry's press service reports.
Thus, the direct connection between Chernihiv and Kyiv has been restored. Now it takes 2 hours to get from the oblast centre to the capital. All types of transport have been allowed to use the first lane in both directions, while work is still underway on the second.
"Restoration of transport routes in Chernihiv Oblast is a prerequisite for the protection of our northern borders and the normalisation of life in the communities of Chernihiv Oblast," explains the Head of the Ministry, Oleksandr Kubrakov.
The ministry reminds that the bridge across the Desna was destroyed at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The absence of traffic across it forced drivers to spend twice as much time detouring through the destroyed crossings around Chernihiv.
Background. Earlier, the reconstruction of 3 bridges damaged by the war began in Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts. The equipment purchased through UNITED24 was being used for repairs.
