The French company Pernod Ricard, one of the world's leading alcohol producers, has resumed supplies to Russia after a year.

Source. This was first reported by the Swedish publication Kristianstadsbladet, citing the management of the Swedish vodka brand Absolut, which also belongs to the Pernod Ricard group, RFI reports.

According to Paula Eriksson, Vice President of the Swedish company Absolut, after the Russian army invaded Ukraine, Pernod Ricard adheres to the EU sanctions restrictions, but "supplies products in a volume that can protect local employees and ensure local organizations' economic sustainability."

Pernod Ricard is one of the largest spirits producers in the world. The company produces Martell cognac, Chivas Regal, Jameson, Ballantine's whiskey, Beefeater gin, Absolut vodka, and Olmeca tequila.

After the outbreak of a full-scale war, Pernod Ricard, like other major global alcohol brands (Diageo, Bacardi, Brown-Forman, Moet Hennessy), announced that it would stop supplying to Russia.

In mid-March 2022, the European Union banned the export of "luxury goods" to Russia, including luxury alcohol over €300 per bottle. In response to Western sanctions, the Russian authorities allowed well-known alcohol brands to be imported into the country under the so-called "parallel imports," i.e. through third countries without the consent of the right holder.

After the invasion began, French luxury companies Hermès, LVMH, Chanel and Kering left Russia. However, most French businesses remained in Russia, despite Zelensky's calls to stop supporting the Russian military machine.

The retailer Auchan, the canned food manufacturer Bonduelle, and the satellite operator Eutelsat continue to operate in Russia.

Background. As a reminder, a scandal erupted in February when an investigation revealed that Auchan was helping the occupiers in Russia and Ukraine.
