Brazilian President declines putin's invitation to participate in SPIEF
Lula reiterated his readiness to participate in peace talks

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said he had a telephone conversation with vladimir putin and reiterated his readiness to participate in peace talks between russia and Ukraine.
"I reaffirmed Brazil's readiness, along with India, Indonesia and China, to talk to both sides of the conflict in the pursuit of peace," Lula tweeted.
He also thanked putin for the invitation to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, but was forced to decline because he "could not visit russia at the moment."
The organizers of the SPIEF-2023 had previously announced that the forum would be attended by a number of well-known Western businessmen and experts, including former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, CEO of electric car manufacturer Lucid Motors Peter Rawlinson, and former Yandex board member Ilya Strebulaev.
However, none of them are going to St. Petersburg, the Financial Times has found out. Schmidt has not received an invitation to the SPIEF and has no plans to attend, a person familiar with the situation told the FT.
Strebulaev, he said, is unaware of his participation in the forum. He resigned from Yandex's board of directors in March 2022.
According to Rawlinson's representative, he knows nothing about the St. Petersburg Forum and does not want to be associated with it in any way.
Background. To recap, Zelensky refused to meet with Brazilian President Lula da Silva. Earlier, da Silva said that Ukrainian President Zelensky bears "the same responsibility" for the "conflict" in his country as putin.
