MP Alekseev, suspected of fraud, failed to appear at the court hearing on the choice of a preventive measure
Court hearing on this issue postponed to July 3

The Lychakiv District Court of Lviv Oblast has postponed the hearing on the motion to impose a preventive measure on MP Serhiy Alekseev, who is suspected of fraud, to Monday, July 3, due to the suspect's absence.
"Due to the suspect's failure to appear at the court hearing, the investigating judge postponed consideration of the motion to 3 July 2023 at 11:00 a.m. As a reminder, on 30 June 2023, the court received a motion to impose a preventive measure on the MP suspected of fraud," the court's press service reports.
Background. As reported by the SBU, on 30 June, MP from the European Solidarity parliamentary group Alekseev, chairman of the subcommittee on law enforcement in the Verkhovna Rada Committee, was notified of suspicion of fraud by extorting $50,000 from a foreigner to avoid extradition.
Based on the evidence collected, the Prosecutor General authorized serving the MP a notice of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed on a large scale). The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
On 30 June the prosecutor's office filed a motion with the Lychakiv District Court of Lviv Oblast to impose a pre-trial restraint on the MP in the form of detention with an alternative bail 10 million UAH.
