In Kyiv, Blinken was shown American equipment supplied to Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited a Ukrainian Border Guard Service facility on the outskirts of Kyiv at the start of the second day of an unannounced two-day visit.

The Secretary of State was shown four vehicles with enhanced mine protection provided by the United States.

This equipment is part of a package of 190 vehicles that will be delivered in the coming months.

Anthony Blinken also visited a basement in the Chernihiv region where the Russian military was holding civilians. Some of them died of hunger and lack of medical care.

"It all comes down to the human dimension, to the lives, the stories of men, women and children – for example, men, women and children who were imprisoned in the basement of this building... And this is just one building in one village, in one locality in Ukraine, and this is a story that we see over and over again," Blinken said, as quoted by Ukrayinska Pravda.

Background. On Wednesday, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced a new package of US aid to Ukraine totaling $1 billion, including $175 million in security assistance.
