The Pentagon will train 2000 troops to support Israel in case of escalation of the conflict

The US Department of Defense has selected 2,000 military personnel to prepare for potential deployment in support of Israel.

Source. The Wall Street Journal writes about this with reference to Pentagon officials.

According to the sources, the military will be tasked with counseling and providing medical assistance. Direct participation in hostilities is excluded.

Currently, the soldiers, selected from various units of the U.S. Armed Forces, are deployed in the Middle East and Europe. Under what circumstances they can be used and where, is not reported.

Earlier it became known that the United States decided to double its forces in the Middle East to prevent the conflict between Israel and Hamas from turning into a large-scale regional war. U.S. officials told The New York Times that such measures are intended to deter Iran, Syria, and the Lebanese group Hezbollah from interfering.

Over the weekend, the Pentagon sent a second aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean along with additional ground-based combat aircraft.

At the same time, Washington warned Iran through intermediaries in Qatar, Oman, and China about the inadmissibility of escalation.

Also, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken went on a Middle East tour, during which he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Concerns about the opening of a second front intensified on October 15, when Iranian-backed Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel, and Israel responded with artillery fire and air strikes.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that the main IDF forces are currently concentrated in the south of the country, awaiting the start of a ground operation in the Gaza Strip, which had to be postponed due to unfavorable weather.

Background. Earlier, Iran said that it would open "new fronts" against Israel if it crossed the "red line" and launched an invasion of the Gaza Strip.
