Kyiv City Council Adopts Capital Budget for 2024 - UAH 1 billion Allocated to Help the Armed Forces

On Thursday, December 14, the Kyiv City Council adopted the Kyiv budget for 2024. In particular, revenues are planned in the amount of over UAH 72.6 billion, and expenditures – over UAH 85.3 billion.

Source. This was reported by the press service of the KCSA.

It is noted that the budget was planned taking into account the realities and needs of martial law. The priority is to ensure the operation of critical infrastructure.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, UAH 1 billion has been preliminarily allocated in the budget to help the Armed Forces.

The law does not allow the capital to help units that are not registered in Kyiv. Also, according to the law, the city cannot purchase equipment or gear. It can only transfer funds at the official request of the units, the statement said.

"The state has actually deprived us of the opportunity to help the military by taking away the 'military' personal income tax. However, we will continue to look for opportunities to add more funds, to allocate them from other items to help our defenders as much as we can," the mayor said.

Thus, next year, the capital will continue to help the military, veterans and their families, as well as families of fallen soldiers under the program to support defenders. UAH 742 million is allocated for these expenditures.

Education, transportation, housing and utilities, social protection and healthcare are the sectors that are in great need of support.

In particular, education has traditionally been one of the main areas of funding, with more than UAH 27.2 billion allocated for it.

More than UAH 23.8 billion has been allocated for transport, road infrastructure and communications.

Housing and utilities will receive UAH 8.2 billion, and social protection – UAH 7.8 billion.

About UAH 6 billion is planned for healthcare.

Background. As previously reported, the Kyiv City Council plans to allocate an additional UAH 600 million for Ukraine's defenders – protesters gathered outside the KCSA to demand more funds for the Armed Forces.
