More than 100 people killed in Iran due to explosions during the ceremony at the grave of General Soleimani
Almost two hundred more people were injured, the bombs were activated remotely
Two explosions occurred during a mourning ceremony dedicated to the memory of General Qasem Soleimani in Kerman, Iran.
According to the latest local media reports, at least 103 people were killed. The bombs planted near the cemetery were activated remotely. Local authorities called the explosions a terrorist attack.
"There were also 171 people injured, some of them in critical condition," Iran International reports.
Qasem Soleimani was killed in a US strike on January 3, 2020. He was a lieutenant general and commander of the Al-Quds Force, a special unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) designed to conduct special operations outside Iran.
Al-Quds, under the leadership of Soleimani, provided military support to the Hamas and Hezbollah groups in Palestine and Lebanon, and also played an important role in shaping the political situation in Iraq after the withdrawal of US troops.
As a reminder, the Iranian court ordered US citizens, agencies and organizations to pay the plaintiffs a total of almost $50 billion for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani. We are talking about 42 defendants, including US ministries, military units, and individuals. The lawsuits were filed against them by 3,318 plaintiffs who suffered "moral and material damages" in connection with the general's "martyrdom."
Suleimani died after a US air strike near Baghdad airport on January 3, 2020. The Pentagon reported that the strike was carried out on the personal order of President Donald Trump.
