The first place is shared by France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain. Citizens of these countries can travel freely in 194 countries.
In 2023, the Russian passport dropped two lines in the index and took 51st place between Georgia and Turkey, opening its holders visa-free entry to 119 destinations out of 227 existing ones.
Over the past 10 years, the Russian passport has dropped 13 positions in the ranking, having slipped from 38th place in 2014. In its fall, the Russian passport has outpaced the passport holders of Moldova (49th place), Venezuela (46th), and Honduras (40th).
The last place in the list is occupied by Afghanistan – people with the passport of this country can travel only to 28 countries.
The Henley & Partners Passport Index analyzes the visa regulations of 227 countries and territories of the world on a quarterly basis, ranking them by the number of visa-free countries. A country's position in the ranking depends on the number of countries to which its citizens can enter without prior visa application (generally without a visa or with a visa on arrival).
