Finland's new president declares severance of relations with Russia until the end of the war

Finland's new president, Alexander Stubb, has said that the country's authorities will not work to establish relations with Russia's leadership until it ends the war in Ukraine.

"The policy towards Russia is simple. Diplomatic and official relations remain, but there are no relations with Russia at the political level and there will be no relations until Russia stops its military operation in Ukraine," Stubb said.
Alexander Stubb won with 51.6 per cent of the vote in the elections that ended on 11 February.
It should be noted that all the main candidates in the Finnish presidential election supported Ukraine and opposed Russia. Stubb, in particular, promised to ban the possibility of holding both Finnish and Russian citizenship.
