A Russian pilot, Maxim Kuzminov, who ferried an Mi-8 to Ukraine in 2023, was found dead in Spain. This information was confirmed to a number of Ukrainian media outlets by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine's representative Andriy Yusov.

Earlier, the death was reported by the Spanish media, citing sources. Some of them identified the person, while others did not. The media claimed that at least five bullet holes were found on the body of the victim.

The Ukrainska Pravda media outlet, citing an intelligence source, said that Kuzminov had decided to move to Spain on his own. "He decided to move to Spain instead of being here. From what we know, he invited his ex-girlfriend to his place and was found shot dead," the source said.

According to the source, a burnt-out car was found nearby, in which the liquidators were allegedly fleeing.

Kuzminov's death was reported by several Spanish and Italian publications. In particular, the Spanish edition of ABC reported the murder of a 33-year-old Ukrainian on 13 February in Villajoyosa. The man's body was found with at least 12 bullet holes in it. Investigators soon found a burnt car in the neighbouring town of Campello, where the killer could have fled. Journalists noted that the cause of death could have been "settling a score".

As reported, according to the GUR, on 9 August 2023, a special operation of the Ukrainian military intelligence, codenamed "Tit", was carried out, during which a Russian Mi-8 helicopter with a crew was lured to the territory of Ukraine.

Russian pilot Maxim Kuzminov, who "drove" the Mi-8AMTSh helicopter of the Russian Aerospace Forces to Ukraine as part of the special operation, said that he himself had contacted Ukrainian military intelligence, after which they began to communicate and plan the operation. According to him, the planning of the special operation took about six months.
