The approval was granted to the company after it proposed a solution to the problem encountered by the first patient. In early May, Neuralink announced that the thin wires implanted in the brain of the first patient had become dislodged. To avoid this happening again, they will be implanted into the brain of the second person at a greater depth.
Neuralink plans to implant the device in the second patient in June and to install it in ten people this year.
It is also reported that more than a thousand people with quadriplegia (a form of cerebral palsy) have registered with the company's patient registry. The company intends to apply for similar trials in Canada and the UK in the next few months.
In February, Neuralink announced that the first patient implanted with a brain chip was able to control the cursor of a computer mouse with the help of thoughts without any negative consequences for himself.
