Alexander Lukashenko has decided to pardon German citizen Rico Krieger.
Source. This was reported by the Belarusian state agency BELTA with reference to the press service of the head of state.
As reported, Krieger was found guilty under six articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus and sentenced to death.
According to BelTA, Krieger appealed to Lukashenka for a pardon.
‘The head of state, taking into account all the circumstances, decided to pardon him,’ the report said.
As a reminder, German citizen Rico Krieger was found guilty of carrying out an explosion at the Ozerishche railway station on the outskirts of Minsk in October 2023. This station is used by the Belarusian military and is used to transport army supplies. No one was injured in the explosion, and the damage was just over $500. Nevertheless, Krieger was sentenced to death.
Krieger was accused of: ‘unlawful actions with firearms‘, “rendering public transport or communication routes unusable”, “creating or participating in an ”extremist’ formation‘, “agent activity”, “mercenarism” and “terrorist” act’.
In particular, under the article on committing a terrorist act, he was tried for carrying out an explosion ‘for terrorist purposes’.
It is worth noting that recently Krieger addressed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz via state television and called on the head of the government to intervene in his case.
