Akhmetov: iron and steel works in Mariupol will not operate under Russian occupation
Azovtal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works are under Ukraine's control but temporarily shut down

What happened. The owner of System Capital Management (SCM), Rinat Akhmetov, has stated that Mariupol-based plants Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works will not work under Russian occupation.

Details. "Russian troops are turning Mariupol into rubble. Under no circumstances will these plants operate under Russian occupation," he said.
Akhmetov emphasized that Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works are under Ukrainian control owing to the valiant effort of the army of Ukraine.
The major steelmakers have employed about 40,000 people in the city. Both plants are controlled by Ukraine but remain closed for the time being.
