Thus, the volume of US military aid to Ukraine will reach $3.2 billion
“US President Joe Biden has announced another $800 million package of military aid to Ukraine,” CNN reports.
Biden said on Thursday (April 21st), that the new supplies would include heavy weapons, dozens of howitzers, tactical drones and 144,000 rounds of ammunition.
This means the US has committed approximately $3.4 billion dollars in assistance to Ukraine.
The previous package of the same amount included artillery systems, shells, armored personnel carriers and helicopters.
Biden said that russia had “refocused” its campaign to capture new territory in Eastern Ukraine, this made the flow of Western military aid essential.
“We're in a critical window now of time where they're going to set the stage for the next phase of this war,” Biden said of the russian military plans. “The United States and our allies and partners are moving as fast as possible to continue to provide Ukraine the weapons they need, the equipment they need, that their forces need to defend their nation.”
Biden has also announced another $500 million of direct economic aid to the Ukrainian government.
In addition, the United States has expanded sanctions against russia by banning russian ships from entering American ports.
