Orbán imposes a state of emergency in Hungary due to the war in Ukraine

What happened? Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has declared a state of emergency due to the war in Ukraine, starting from midnight on May 25.

Source. He announced this in his video address on his official Facebook page.

Details. It is noted that the Hungarian government, which took the oath on May 24, began to work immediately.

According to him, “this war (russo-Ukrainian – ed.) means a constant danger to Hungary. It poses a threat to our physical security. It threatens our economy and our families in terms of energy supplies and material security. We see that the war and the sanctions in Brussels have led to a huge economic shock and a sharp rise in prices.”

Orbán said that Hungary should stay away from this war and protect the financial security of Hungarian families. According to him, this requires space for maneuver and immediate action.

“The government is realizing its right under the Basic Law to declare a state of emergency today at midnight. Like the state of emergency imposed during the epidemic, it will allow the government to respond immediately and protect Hungary and Hungarian families with all possible means,” Orbán said.
