What happened? President Volodymyr Zelensky won the Borys Nemtsov Prize in 2022. He received an award for bravery.
Source. This was reported by the Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom.
Details. “We do not give an award for the past or for the future. We give an award for what a person has done here and now this year. And here and now Volodymyr Zelensky remained in Kyiv and decided to defend his homeland together with his people. He showed courage. At the moment, his words that he does not need evacuation, instead he needs more weapons for Ukrainian warriors, are the quintessence of his incredible courage,” said Zhanna Nemtsova, co-founder of the foundation.
According to her, it is significant that no one expected this from Zelensky.
“I think that even vladimir putin was surprised that Zelensky turned out to be a courageous man, and now he is the leader of the free world,” she said.
Among the candidates for the award were also the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko, the leader of the Okean Elzy band Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, the founder of the unit of combat medical volunteers Yulia Payevska (Taira), and adviser to the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovych. According to the results of the voting of the founders and the Board of the Foundation, Zelensky won.
Background. Earlier, Zelensky received the Legend of Leadership award, which recognizes world leaders who have shown heroism and influenced the industry or country.
