The russians have placed their military equipment on the territory of the nuclear power plant and are firing from there, knowing that the Ukrainian defenders will not be able to fire back due to the threat of a nuclear tragedy. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called russia’s actions around ZNPP “the height of irresponsibility,” having accused moscow of using it as a “nuclear shield”.
“Washington is “deeply concerned” that moscow is now using the plant as a military base and firing on Ukrainian forces from around it,” the official told reporters.
Blinken also stated that the kremlin was using “dangerous nuclear saber-rattling”, Ukrinform reports.
According to the Secretary of State, there is no place in today's civilized world for nuclear deterrence based on coercion, intimidation, or blackmail.
