Details. The strike took place on the night of September 21, around 01:13 a.m. The projectiles damaged the communication equipment of power unit 6 together with the open switchgear of the plant. The block transformer and transformers of the power unit's own needs were disconnected.
Due to the loss of power, there was an emergency start of two diesel generators of the safety systems to ensure the operation of the fuel cooling pumps. At around 02:00 a.m., the ZNPP staff found an opportunity to establish the power supply of power unit 6 for its own needs from the bus systems of other power units of the station. The diesel generators were turned off and switched to standby mode.
“They were not stopped even by the presence of IAEA inspectors at the site of the Zaporizhzhia Plant. We expect more decisive actions from the organisation to stop russia's aggressive actions against civilian nuclear facilities of Ukraine, as well as support in the de-occupation of the ZNPP, and establishment of a nuclear and physical security zones around the nuclear power plants of Ukraine,” Energoatom said in a statement.
