What happened? Ukraine exported 99.8 million tonnes of goods (including 16.3 million tonnes through the grain corridor) worth $44.1 billion during 2022.
Source. Taras Kachka, the Trade Representative of Ukraine and Deputy Minister of Economy.
Details. Mr. Kachka stresses that usually such figures could seem "catastrophic", since the export value is 35% less than in 2021, and physical volumes decreased by 38.4%. "Nevertheless, in the conditions of war, this is a feat to export almost 100 million tonnes of products in the conditions of port blockades and constant attacks on infrastructure. This is the first year when the volume of exports and logistics came to the fore," he comments.
The Deputy Minister adds that corn is the leader among other exported goods in terms of volume and value – Ukrainians sold almost 25 million tonnes for $5.94 billion, which is 1% more than in 2021.
Sunflower oil ranked second in terms of export value – $5.46 billion. Mr. Kachka notes that sunflower seeds broke into the top 10 – they were exported 33 times more than in 2021 (2.7 million tonnes for $1.255 billion).
