NBU: 40% of bank branches are ready to provide services in blackout conditions

What happened? The joint Power Banking network has expanded by more than 1.5 times in a month. Currently, 1,827 bank branches are able to operate in blackout conditions, which is 40% of the total number (except for non-operating branches and those located in the occupied territories and territories where military operations are ongoing/possible)

Details. "The National Bank set a goal of reaching 35% of the network of each bank. Some banks are still approaching this level, but we have already exceeded this figure in the system as a whole! Thus, the number of branches will continue to grow," says Andriy Pyshnyi, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine. 

The branches equipped with alternative energy sources and backup communication channels are currently located in almost 300 settlements. 

At the start of the project, 14 systemically important banks became its leaders, with branches accounting for about 70% of the Power Banking network. Today, almost all banks have joined the project. The NBU reminds that in the event of a blackout in such branches, customers will be able to:

- receive cash (at ATMs or at the cash desk)

- make payments, transfer funds (at the cash desk or self-service terminals)

- exchange currency (if cash is available at the cash desk);

- get advice from a financial manager.
