SBI exposes head of the tax department of Kyiv, Matiy, on multi-million corruption schemes
During the searches, $158,000, 530,000 UAH and €2,200, as well as luxury property were found on her person

What happened? The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has exposed Oksana Matiy, the Acting Head of the Kyiv State Tax Service (STS), for multimillion-dollar corruption schemes.
Source. The SBI website.
Details. Investigators found that the head of the tax service made decisions for money about the non-compliance with the risk criteria of taxpayers for a number of enterprises. She also used her proxies to artificially inflate gross expenses of some enterprises, conducted business without registering a sole proprietorship, and submitted false information about income.
According to expert estimates, more than 15 billion UAH fell into the shadow turnover. In another episode, the management of the Kyiv Main Department of the State Tax Service was involved in schemes to illegally obtain VAT refunds, resulting in more than 30 billion UAH falling into shadow circulation.
Currently, the SBI is investigating Ms. Matiy's lifestyle, which does not correspond to the level of her official income: she has 3 apartments in Kyiv worth about $1 million, a house near Kyiv worth about $200,000, and 2 cars worth about $150,000.
At the same time, one of the official's cars worth nearly $100,000 is registered to her personal driver, whose income in recent years has not exceeded $8,000. The woman also had expensive jewelry, expensive branded clothing, gold watches, as well as other luxury items.
Moreover, $158,000, 530,000 UAH and €2,200 were found on Ms. Matiy. The total amount of the official's identified unjustified assets is about $1.4 million.
