What happened? The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 4,200 people.
Details. It is noted that 1293 people were killed in Syria. Another 3411 were injured. At the same time, in the government-controlled provinces, the death toll reaches 593 people, and in the northwest of the country, which is not controlled by the country, the Syrian Civil Defence reports 700 dead.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Turkey has risen to 2,316 people, the number of injured – to 13,293, and the number of rescued people – to 7,340. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria could rise eightfold when the rescue and search operations are completed.
Background. Earlier a powerful earthquake hit Turkey. The epicentre was located 23 kilometres from the city of Nurdagi, near the border with Syria.
