The US will provide Ukraine with collapsible armored bridges for the military for the first time
The new US aid package is also expected to include more ammunition for the equipment already provided
The United States is expected to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine on Friday, including – for the first time – eight armored vehicles that can set up bridges and allow troops to cross rivers or other areas.

U.S. officials said the total cost of the package would be about $400 million and would also include a large amount of ammunition, such as missiles for high mobility artillery missile systems.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the aid package has not yet been made public.
The so-called Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge is a portable, 20-meter-long folding metal bridge that is transported on a tank hull. Providing such a system now could make it easier for Ukrainian troops to cross rivers during the expected offensive.
Including this latest package, the United States has provided over $32 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. The transport bridges and ammunition in the package will be taken from Pentagon warehouses, so they can be quickly delivered to the front.
