Ukraine aims to start EU accession negotiations as early as this year

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola in Lviv.
He announced this on his Telegram channel.
"Thank you for your leadership in supporting Ukraine from the first days of this terrible war and the important decisions made by the European Parliament. In particular, on 1 March, 2022, the day after our application for EU membership had been submitted, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the support and necessity of granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership," the statement said.
Mr. Zelensky emphasised that Ukraine sought to complete the implementation of the European Commission's recommendations as soon as possible and start negotiations on EU membership as early as this year.
