Box office receipts of Russian films abroad have fallen to a 5-year low
Italy remains the largest importer of Russian films

In 2022, Russian films earned $17.1 million in foreign box office. The collection was the lowest in five years.

Russian films failed to reach the 2021 figure of $18.2 million. Compared to the pre-pandemic 2019 ($52.5 million), the box office has decreased threefold.
Last year, 62 feature films were released abroad, one less than in 2021.
Due to sanctions against Russia, the North American market and a number of European countries have closed for most Russian films. For example, Germany dropped out of the top distributors.
At the same time, Italy became the largest importer of Russian films ($2 million). It beat China ($1.6 million), which was in second place. Mexico came in third with $1.5 million.
Russian cartoons are the most popular abroad.
