The monthly production of 155-mm artillery shells in the United States will double by the end of this year and reach 24,000 units per month.
This was announced by a senior Pentagon official, Gabe Camarillo, Defense One reports.
According to him, the production of such shells will increase sixfold in five years.
The Pentagon will spend approximately $1.45 billion to modernize the production facilities that produce the shells.
The goal is to improve the supply of the Ukrainian army and replenish warehouse stocks for the needs of the US army.
According to the publication, the US Army is also increasing the production of Javelin anti-tank missiles and guided multiple launch rocket systems (GMLRS).
In particular, Javelin production will more than double to 330 per month, and the production of launchers will double to 41 per month.
In total, the United States is investing more than $2 billion in production facilities for the production of weapons and ammunition. The funds are part of a 15-year, $18 billion plan to modernize state-owned enterprises.
