Elon Musk is no longer the richest man in the world
This is because the value of Tesla shares has fallen by 65% over the past year

The founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has lost the top spot in the ranking of the world's richest people compiled by the American magazine Forbes.
Instead, the list was headed by French businessman Bernard Arnault.
American Forbes has published its 37th annual ranking of the world's richest people. It was headed by Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH Group, the owner of Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Moët & Chandon and other brands.
Forbes estimated his wealth, together with the capital of the rest of the Arnault family, at $211 billion.
A year ago, Elon Musk was at the top of the ranking, but now he has dropped to second place. According to Forbes, the billionaire's fortune has dropped to $180 billion from $219 billion.
This is largely due to the fact that in 2022, the stock price of his company, the electric car manufacturer Tesla, fell by almost 65%.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos rounds out the top 3. Forbes USA estimated his net worth at $114 billion, down from $171 billion in 2022, when shares of the largest US tech companies began to fall. Amazon itself reported a record annual loss of $2.7 billion.
Background. As a reminder, Musk has deprived The New York Times' main Twitter account with 55 million followers of the blue tick. The publication refused to pay $8 per month for verification on principle. Other publications are preparing to do the same.
