"Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot seize the territory of Ukraine. Perhaps we will discuss Crimea. But he should think about where else he has invaded," Silva said at a meeting with journalists on April 6.
According to him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "cannot want everything either." "The world needs peace... We must find a solution," the Brazilian president said.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responded to this statement.
Ukraine does not trade its territories, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko emphasized on Facebook.
"Ukraine appreciates the efforts of the President of Brazil to find a solution to end Russian aggression. At the same time, we must make it clear: Ukraine does not trade its territories."
According to him, there is no legal, political or moral reason why Ukraine should give up even a centimeter of Ukrainian land.
"Any mediation efforts to restore peace in Ukraine should be based on respect for the sovereignty and full restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter," Nikolenko emphasized.
In early March, Zelensky spoke with da Silva to discuss Ukraine's "peace formula."
"I thanked Brazil for supporting our resolution on peace and territorial integrity for Ukraine. We discussed diplomatic efforts that can stop Russian aggression and restore peace to our country, the region and the whole world," the Ukrainian president said after the conversation.
