On Tuesday, the Ukraine Solidarity Project (Ukraine Solidarity Project) held a protest in London calling for a boycott of the drinks of the French distributor Pernod Ricard.

Ukraine Solidarity Project activists claim that since September, Pernod Ricard has shipped tens of millions of dollars worth of alcohol to russia, and only recently agreed to stop exporting Absolut when politicians and restaurants in Sweden called for a boycott of this particular brand.

"In March 2022, after putin's horrific attack on Ukraine, Beefeater gin and Pernod Ricard did the right thing by joining international companies that pulled their products from russian shelves, not wanting to legitimize putin's war. But after a year of horrors, Pernod Ricard somehow decided that it was safe to resume exporting brands such as Beefeater gin to russia, and only stopped exporting Absolut vodka after a wave of anger in Sweden," wrote representatives of the Ukraine Solidarity Project in an open letter to Pernod Ricard.

The activists emphasize that by selling its drinks in russia, the company supports the russian war and sends a signal to other entrepreneurs that it is acceptable to return to the russian market.

The company has not yet responded to the accusations. A statement summarizing its position on the war in Ukraine is posted on its website, saying that Pernod Ricard is deeply shocked and saddened by the war in Ukraine and that the company has made a donation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to support Ukrainians.

Background. Recently, it was reported that the vodka producer Absolut changed its mind about returning to russia.
