Poland wants to buy 500 HIMARS missile systems from the United States - it will cost $10 billion

In the coming days, the first of twenty U.S. HIMARS missile systems are to arrive in Poland.

"The acquisition of HIMARS is a good step that demonstrates that Poland is strengthening its military power," said General Leon Komornicki, former Deputy Chief of the Polish Army General Staff, on Polish Radio Szczecin.

"HIMARS will allow us to create an impenetrable barrier on five or six operational areas of the eastern border. Any enemy will lose its offensive capabilities before reaching the Polish border," he emphasized.

The procurement of HIMARS is not only related to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Poland's military armament strategy began a long time ago," added security expert Piotr Grochmalski.

"We are talking about the purchase of F-35 fighter jets, HIMARS and Patriot systems. After all, we purchased the HIMARS back in 2020," he clarified.

In total, Poland wants to buy 500 missile systems from the United States. Their purchase will cost about $10 billion.

Background. As reported, Poland has already handed over 10 MiG-29 fighters to Kyiv.
