The head of the occupying Russian authorities of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, confirmed that grain wagons had derailed in Simferopol district, he wrote in his telegram channel. According to him, no one was injured.

The derailment of the freight train in Crimea was caused by "interference of unauthorized persons in the work of railway transport," Russian media reported, citing the Crimean Railways.

Earlier it was reported that five railroad cars with grain derailed.

The Baza Telegram channel claims that the accident was caused by an explosion.

According to updated data, about 150 meters of the railroad were damaged in the place where the freight train derailed, the so-called "Minister of Transport" of the temporarily occupied Crimea Nikolai Lukashenko said.

Initially, it was reported that 50 meters of the railroad was damaged. Local authorities announced plans to complete the repairs and restore the interrupted service by the evening of May 18.

Train traffic on the Simferopol-Sevastopol section was suspended on Thursday morning after grain wagons derailed. According to media reports, an explosion occurred on the railroad near the village of Chistenke, and the FSB is looking for saboteurs.
